i have a case 570lxt series 2 with what looks like a 4 cylinder cummins it acted like it ran out of fuel,i bleed system still no start, smokes out of exaust acts like it wants to start but wont ,any one have any suggestions, and how much fuel pressure should be coming out of injector pump.
Welcome to HEF jonnyv! There should be a good squirt of fuel at the injector lines. If you simply loosen the fitting it should spit at least 6-10 inches. You should have an in-line bosch pump on that engine. The fuel solonoids have 3 wires 1) 12v at startup 2) 12v at ign on 3) earth Be sure it is working correctly. Often the coil for startup fails. You should be able to manually move the shut-off lever into the 'run' position if the ign is on. If the solenoid is good - check the in-line fuel filter for blockages. Replace & prime.
thanks for the help alrman, i will let you know wwhat i find.
alrman no pressure from pump fuel just dribbles out, drive gear was tight and no problems found.i pulled injector pump and sent it to rebuilder, they found no problem with it they changed a valve in it,i dont have the pump back yet if it doesnt work do you have any suggestions? and there is no keyway in drive gear for timming does it need to be timmed?
jonnyv, jonnyv......:eek2 I can't believe you pulled the pump without another post to let us know what you had found. When you say "no problems found", before the pump removal, did that mean there was 1) a good supply of fuel to the injector pump? 2) The fuel shut off lever, at the pump was moving when the engine was started & remained in the 'run' position afterward? Yes, it has to be timed. That type of pump is supposed to be removed with the engine locked in the TDC position. Was that done? When you get the pump back from the shop it will be likely locked in it's 'timed' position. Without the engine at TDC, & with the pump removed, it complicates things a little. Give me some more info as to what you found & exactly what you have done.
alrman my customer told me to pull pump, not my idea, and there is a good supply of fuel to pump, the fuel shut off is working, i did time the pump before removing it,i got pump back and reinstalled it,i have better pressure out of the injector pump but only about a 1 inch squirt, the rebuilder of the pump says it was putting out16 lbs on his test bench, but still have a no start i only have a dribble of fuel on the return side, also this pump does not have a way to lock it at tdc #1.it will start on startin fluid but dies instantly...... any ideas? thanks.
My repair shop always asks if I want my pumps timed or not. Just to be sure we are on the same wavelength - the pump you have is an 'in-line' bosch? The return lines won't have much fuel till it's running, the 'spit' I mentioned above, is from the high pressure delivery lines while cranking - 17mm or 19mm wrench required. If it is the 'in-line' bosch pump - the timing issue is discussed here - HeavyEquipmentForums the thread is about a skid steer, but the pump & procedure is the same.
alrman this tractor died while using it is there any way this could have jumped time?without physical damage??? i am at a loss here i have never been beat by a machine this one is trying my brain!! has everything to start but willnot exaust smokes but will not start,if there is a problem no one has encountered i will get it never fails.any ideas????
If the timing gear was tight, it should not go out of time. If it delivered fuel on the test bench, your problem can only be 1) fuel delivery 2) electrics 3) timing If you're not specific in giving me information, by answering questions, I can't really be of any more help.
