580 B brakes

jamby ยท 2015-06-15 16:15

My 1974 580 B has one side (right) brake that's hanging. Has to be rocked back and forth to release. Can the brake be rebuilt? Or does it have to be replaced? Thanks Jim

Well I found another posting with step by step for removing the brakes (by 1968 Case 580CK) and another with links to where they sell repair kits. Ebay has at least 3 people selling kits. Great Forum.. Jim

Not sure if this will help you, The brake issue is very common with the B''s C's and D's. Case finally fixed it with the E's. Inside the brake assembly is a drum with four come balls inside, what happens is the balls get dirty and will not release. The ONLY way to fix it is to take each side off and clean the balls. Case use to sell a brake kit for each side. It is quit a time consuming job to remove the assembly but is the only way. If you are going that far to clean the balls, replace brake shoes etc. while in there. Bear.

hey Isnapped I just came in from reassembling my right hand brake. Take a look at this posting for some good hints, post, #24 shows that plate. On mine it looked like there were some phillips head screws holding it in place. My brakes were dry so I didn't pull mine. HeavyEquipmentForums Good Luck Jim

Don't forget to drain the gear box before removing that plate. As the seal comes out so will the oil. Jim
