If your ser number is JJG0009722 or after it has the larger 3.5 cylinder. Most machines with a early serial numbers had the 3.25 cylinders from the plant. Case did a modification program non-mandatory for the upgraded cylinders to the 3.5 for machines while doing a upgrade to the control valve swing section and the boom cylinder. You should be able to contact a dealer with your s/n and they should be able to call and see if the upgraded was done. Most dealers contacted owners and did this upgrade at that time. The 3.25 cylinders removed were to be destroyed at the dealerships. To remove the cylinder packing, use a adjustable spanner(otc tools) to unscrew the gland several turns, remove the pin on the rod end, unscrew the gland the rest of the way out, loosen both hoses to the cylinder tube to drain remaining oil and to let air into the barrel end of the cylinder for ease of removal, grasp the rod and carefully slide it out. Remove bolt from piston end, remove piston, slide gland off rod, remove seal, wiper, orings, bushing as needed, clean and install your kit parts. Same goes with the piston, slide gland back on rod, install piston and bolt and tighten, I use red Loctite on the bolt and tighten to around 340 ft lbs. Lube your piston seals and o ring on the gland, use care reinstalling piston into the barrel, tighten the gland in the tube and re hook rod end and hyd hoses. Add oil and swing hoe several times until oil fills the cylinders. Stand clear and safe in the pinch point area, it can move very fast or freely until cylinders are recharged with oil.
