Previous owner said be always used 15w40 motor oil in the machine. Either Shell/Case/or COOP oil. I used it for a few hours never touched a drop. Then i changed it with Shell rotella T 10w30 diesel oil for winter and used it for 12hours over 2 days and 11 of the hours didnt touch a drop then i drove it home 20 miles checked the dip stick this morning and it was 7L low.... No leaks no smoke no signs of anything failing... Just wondering if anyone has ever had a machine that used one brand of oil but not another brand? Any ideas or info would be greatly appreciated Thanks Ryan
7 liters in an hour is pretty dramatic. Just a guess, but I'd be looking at what the engine is doing on the road instead of the brand of oil. Is the blow by tube clean? too clean?
I ran it last night for 2hrs @2100 Rpm didnt touch a drop... Blow by tube has the normal blow by and nothing out of the ordinary. Im not really sure what the deal is. Runs good starts good doesnt smoke doesnt miss antifreeze is clean. Air breather is clean no power loss. Ive had an experience with "bad oil" before in one of my duramax diesels. Dip stick was almost dry after i had my truck serviced at a dealership...they added texico oil and within 2000k i almost blew my motor. I used shell and the truck bas 600000km doesnt burn a drop. Thats why i was askin if anyone ever has had an experience like this
You ran it for 2 hours unloaded? The cylinder pressure is going to be alot higher with a load going down the road
How often did you actually check the oil in that 12 hrs of operation? Is it possible you miscounted on initial fill up? That would be my bet on that pickup at the dealer scenario. Even if the oil somehow escaped the crankcase, it had to go somewhere. If 7 liters an hour went into the cylinders, it would smoke like a used steam train. This isn't a turbocharged machine, is it?
I checked the oil every morning first day ran it for 6hrs. Didnt touch a drop. Second day 5hrs didnt touch a drop 3rd day checked it it was full drove it 1hr at 2000rpm and it was low when i got back to the shop... No smoke no miss no nothing out of the ordinanry... Its a turbo charged machine. When i had it running yesterday for 2hrs it was just on high idle and occasional usage of the backhoe arm because i was testing my linkages i made to convert the dipper and boom control so i needed to test to make sure they functioned properly. As for the truck i always check when it gets back from dealership.. Oil level was perfect. Thanks for the replys so far
