580C Hydraulic overheating

Hello, 1979 Case 580C hydraulics overheating. Can't touch cylinders after working hard. New oil, return filter, cooler fins clear/clean. Anyone know if there is a thermostat or flow diverter that controls temperature? Thanks

I would expect them to get hot. How hot is too hot? Does it still work ok when it gets hot?

way hotter than any other machine I've had- can't touch cylinders, blowing hoses, seals, power drops off yes.

Sounds like you need to rebuild or replace a pressure relief valve.

Are certain cylinder(s) getting hotter than the rest? Backhoe cylinders hotter than loader cylinders? There may be a restriction or fluid blowing by one or more of cylinder seals causing fluid to heat. Try running a cold machine for a few minutes to try and locate heat source, maybe using infared heat gun or just your hand. Maybe check to make sure quick coupler for rear hydraulics is connected good and working properly. The cooler in front is only for the shuttle. Is the new hyd filter correct and installed correctly? Some stuff to check. P.S. Like Harley said, maybe something stuck in or relief valve worn and fluid blowing by also could probably cause some heat.

Relief blowing by would make the whole machine a little weak correct?

Not really but it would certainly heat up quickly.
