I have a 1971 Case 580Ck TLB. It was changed over at some point to use an alternator instead of a generator. There is an electrical 'thingy' in the circuit that I do not know what it is. Can anyone help? The primary question is about the silver box with 2 screw posts on it marked in pic as A. What's this? Also curious about B that is on both ends of that wire which goes between this silver 'thingy' and the starter solenoid. Any help appreciated...
The silver thing is just a circuit breaker. It allow current thru it, if it draws to much it trips the little contact bar inside and resets when it cools down. The cable ends are made different depending on the manufacture, a heavier insulator, more than likely it's just a good water tight seal, could be fused, may have a diode.
Sheepfoot is correct. Thats a circuit breaker. The cable end is a thermo protector more than likely. GM used those on lots of vehicles. High current and it burns out internally to save the rest of the circuit. One time use on the cable.
