I have a 1981 Case 580D backhoe. It runs for a little while and then shuts off. After a little bit it will restart but then shuts off again after a while. It won't do anything like there electrical system is dead.
sounds like a classic case of flex ring failure clogging the return connector on top of the pump.. Remove the return line & all the fittings on the top cover.. now start the engine.. IF it stays running clean out the ball & spring in the connector & install while its running.. IF it stays running, GOOD, hook up the return line & see how long it stays running..
Why do I lose all the lights on the dash though. It doesn't even try to turn over.
Welcome to HEF @Craig Critten Behind the dash there is a row of circuit breakers. One of them is probably doing what it is supposed to do - protecting the electrical system from a short circuit. See if you can figure which one it is - unfortunately without a wiring diagram you wont figure which breaker protects what.... I would be taking a close look at the wiring harness in the engine area - particularly around the bell housing area. ..... There is also a 40A one on the engine block near the starter - protecting the entire feed to the dash
Ok I'll give that a try! Thank you!!
