im getting a weird shudder or a machine gun like banging when i curl the bucket in , but not all the time . only when u go full out then full back in it starts a hyd thumping and the bucket stutters in the return speed also is bucket out speed faster than pulling in?

Technically, bucket-in speed should be a bit faster. You always have more volume of fluid working on the top side of the piston of any cylinder (i.e. extending cylinder). As for the shutter, it could be a couple things. Could be a check valve in the backhoe control valve or maybe a defective spool. Could also be something going on in the dipper cylinder. Perhaps start by cracking open the check valve plug on the backhoe control valve and checking the washer and spring. Not sure if the K's use plastic check valve washers (like the N's do), but they are somewhat notorious for cracking. These are just guesses.

Is that check valve on top or bottom of control... Level of difficulty to repair??

I guess I am somewhat confused as you said about the bucket, in either case the advice stands. Are you talking about the dipper or the bucket? you say curling I believe, When curling the bucket in to fill it should be slower, the piston retracts to open the bucket and the rod is rather large in comparison to the piston diameter, enhancing the speed. If you are talking about the dipper, the small end indeed does extend and the large end brings it in. The bucket curl cylinder has more power in the curl in side to get full digging power which is not needed to open the bucket. I have noticed that chatter on occasion but never had a customer complain about it in actual digging, just when the bucket s being rolled in free of load. Some will do it on dipper in also. I could speculate on the cause but be dead wrong, I believe it is simply an oscillation caused by the linkage running past the oil supply then stopping and catching up rapidly, does that make any sense. The load checks are lightly steel discs on a stem which runs in a guide. Early on there was a PUP to change out load checks in a select serial number range. It would not be difficult to check them but some familiarity with the system and parts location would be helpful and a service manual would really be helpful. Mel

Often times a shudder like that will be slip-stick of the piston seals in the cylinder, they sort of chatter. It's annoying but not really a problem, unless it's caused by the metal piston chattering on the cylinder tube bore because the wear ring is knackered.

new seal kit was just installed notice a few gouges not deep but visible in the tube just about 1o inches in and a few bad cuts on piston edge by the bolt end , backup piston seal on the piston completely worn out at one edge and seperated had to put a file to piston to soften the scores and nicks keeping new seal from falling into the groove properly . buffed inside cylinder ,fine grit at imperfections found no metal bits inside . bucket dont creep overnight . so its good for now inspect next year maybe on wear , not too bad a job to remove n install by myself . just a mess with the oil please explain knackereed ? p.s its only on bucket curl in /shudder/

Sounds more like a slight bend in the rod causing it to catch and jerk, but it's hard to say sometimes even when you're right there watching and feeling things. Knackered is a British slang term for tired, worn out, dog eared, seen better days. In need of some attention.
