i have a 580k phase 1 and i can jump start the starter with the key on and the key will kill the motor but it will not start the engine, does this mean my key switch is bad or something else.
Neutral switches will do this. Maybe there's a start relay on this? The key switch isn't the first place to look, but it's easy enough to check with a multimeter if you can get to the backside of it without causing more damage.
Depending on which fuel system is on your machine, it might have an electric shut off solenoid on the injection pump.. Just because you can jump it at the starter doesnt mean you have power to the fuel solenoid on the pump.. You can run a hot wire from the battery straight to the solenoid.. Prime the system all the way to the inj. pump.. loosen ALL the lines AT the injectors and crank the engine.. Fuel should squirt out of the lines at the injectors.. tighten them up and off you go.. it doesn't help w/ the electrical issues tho.. it just gets you down the road.
Mine has been troublesome. There is a mating plug beneath the floor that seems to get all the water. The wire comes loose from the injector pump now and again, and I've even had a son without the key hot wire it, and put the white wire on the wrong terminal on the switch. Make sure it has power at the injector pump both crank position, and run position. Willie
