763 hydraulic gear pump replacement…. Tips?

I am helping a friend by wrenching on his 2001 Bobcat 763. The hydraulic gear pump is leaking when put under pressure. After further inspection, I found that it has a hairline crack by the fluid out fitting. I can't believe the price difference between Bobcat parts and aftermarket (loaderpartssource.com). I can buy two pumps from loader parts for the price of one bobcat pump. Same warranty too. Anyway, it seems like it will be a huge pain to get to the back of the pump. Does anyone have any tips or tricks? Also, it looks to me that I need to drain the hydraulic reservoir. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Todd

Hey friend, not a real big deal to handle, done several of them aswell, ive allways flipped cab an drained hyd. tank out, if not you ll have the oil every were an bobcats are known for not installing belly pans for drainage nor cleaning out the bellys of the machines. ive allways removed the 2 joystick control linkages that go down the middle of the machine to the pumps, take a white marker or scriber an mark were the levers bolts are before takeing loose, helps give ya an idea of were ur linkage adjustments are when ya puttem back , then remove the big rubber soft inlet hose then the high pressure side, witch is the smaller hose, then should be either hex head or allen head bolts that hold pump the then end of both wheel drive pumps, should be on a splined shaft , just slide ole pump off an new one on. then replace lines an fluid an linkages. may wanta put grease in new pump or pour some kinda heavy oil in it . but if not just let the machine sit few mins before start up after replaceing hyd. oil so most of air gets outta fresh pump.

Thanks for the tips! Is there a seal or gasket on the pump?

were the hyd. pump seperates from the drive motor I think there may be a oring there, should be a dry area between pump an drive motor. may not even be anything there due to both pumps are selfsealed unless pump failure accured
