The bottom two lines are for your 336. Do you need the tightening sequence (pattern) for the head bolts also ? Also notice the the head bolts are tightened in three steps. 70 the first time, then 140 and finally 200 to 210.

Not for the mains. Only had one loose. For the connecting rod would be appreciated! Thanks for the prompt reply!

You are welcome. The rod torque is in the center of the chart. 95 to 105. Do you need the parts book ? You can download it here -- http://www.minnpar.com/partbooks/Case/CASE 780 CK/CASE 780 CK LOADER BACKHOE.PDF

Thanks Tinkerer. Got er back together and running last night. It lasted about 15-20 mins. #3 rod bearing spun originally on me and I didn't grind crank. Just polished crank journal with fine emrey and got same size bearings. I think it was still out of round and it was probably a little undersized as its knocking again after 20 mins of half throttle working it. Might have to pull crank and grind it. If there is anything left to grind as its not original. I have 2.473 " rod area on crank and 3.475" main bearing area of crank. At the parts store they can only seem to tell me if I'm standard or .002 or .010 or .020 over but is there some one out there that could tell me what size standard is? Are there other motors out there that will bolt right up to this machine?

The 336 cubic inch engine is very similar to all the engines in the service manual pages. One variation is the T letter after the cubic inch designation. It means it is turbo charged. The pistons in the turbo charged engines are most likely different from a naturally aspirated engine. You should not have any problem finding new or used parts , or even a complete used engine. Those engines are also used in the agricultural equipment Case sold. If you are looking for parts remember to check out the various farm equipment dismantle-rs. I have the entire engine service manual in .pdf format somewhere in one of my computers. If you PM me or email your email address to me you can have it. I will be away from my computer the rest of the day.

What is the torque specs for the rocker arm assembly on a 336 diesel engine?

As you can see there is a procedure that must be followed to ensure proper operation of the engine. A service manual is needed to maintain and repair all kinds of construction equipment. If you had the heads removed the water manifold must be installed and the bolts torqued before the head bolts are tightened. Otherwise the manifold could be broken.
