850k POPPING UNDERCARRIAGE

Need help...I have a Case 850k Series 2. At about 3000 hours it started a random popping noise in the undercarriage. It had several rollers wore out along with the rails an sprockets. I completely replaced the entire undercarriage short of the recoil springs only to find it still pops...which I've come to find out is the socket climbing the pins. Odd thing is...it might not pop for hours then all of a sudden it may pop 15-20 times the next 5 minutes. It does this randomly with no pattern. Any ideas????

we have an 850K also. 3700hrs, Case extended life undercarriage(a joke). Did not have popping noise but felt like we were riding on the pin bosch all the time. Very rough unless under a load. We still had plenty of wear left and was not close to being on pin bosch. Talked to local dealer about problem and was asked if we knew how to keep in adjustment first, then they started on the closed/open pad deal - basically went nowhere. Got a complete new undercarriage (not case extended life) and solved our issues. Seemed the roller on the rails was trying to climb the extended life sprocket until it would fall in creating the feel of a worn undercarriage. We really like the tractor - plenty of power and an overall good machine - have had no real issues with it in 3yrs of ownership. We are not new at this - I grew up around heavy equipment and have been running them for 37yrs myself. We are currently down to 5 dozers from a high of 7 along with backhoes, excavator, scarpers, trencher, plow....etc....

btw - we did not get our new undercarriage from dealer. We use a great outfit from southern indiana for all or wear part needs

What type of material do you work in, sandy material will pack in the chains and the root of the sprocket tooth and can make loud bangs, we used to always run the tracks a bit looser when working in sand, avoid sharp turns and if the sand build up became a problem run in reverse for a bit as the sand dropped out of the chains as it went along the top run. Just a thought.
