bit of a long story short i had been using my 9040b often enough lately floated it home this morning drove up to the fuel tank fueled it and let it idle as i did something else for 20 minutes or so and suddenly heard it shut down.. went to assess the problem and there seems to be no power getting to any of it the grounds all seem fine i can test the batteries but would greatly venture a guess they didnt completely die while the engine was running . when i say no power i turn the key and have nothing anywhere the dash is comletely dead, the batteries have been weak in the past but usually got dim lighting in the dash now i have absolutely nothing at all .. any ideas ?
Need to get out a multimeter or friend with one and test the battery, cables, Fuse panel for power. Is there a power relay that has died, fuse blown, alternator dead, Fuel solenoid dropped out. Test all these things out before spending large sums of cash only to find out a fuse is blown. Simon C
Make sure the main disconnect is closing when you turn the key on. It'll be a gold or silver colored piece close to the batteries. Should look similar to this.
so i think i figured out the problem .. the fuel shutoff solenoid must be shorted internally .. found the fuse blown replaced it dash turned on for a second and blew .. for fun put a 15 then 20 amp fuse lasted longer then blew tried a 30 it did fine ran the machine to start it and would run as long as i was starting and then die as soon as i turned the key to on .. have often dealt with those solenoids on my truck and this machine in the past but last time wasnt blowing fuses unplugged solenoid and used a bungee cord returned to a 10 a fuse and everything is fine just annoying that the solenoid probably only has 1500 hrs on it but least the problem is solved if anyone has any pictures of the fuse box diagram it would be appreciated i cant find anything on the internet that i wouldnt have to pay for thanks if anyone is curious its a mid 90s 9040b with 22,000 hours on it and still going strong undercarriage parts as im sure everyone knows are hard to find
Why are you concerned about the fuse box diagram? We had the same problem once on a 9030B, but after I replaced the solenoid it was fine as long as we owned the machine. Those solenoids are a three wire, ground, pull-in coil, and hold-in coil. Reason it would run in start is the pull-in coil is still good, but the hold coil is shorted. Undercarriage? Check out HeavyQuip. Had everything for my 1150G in stock except for the idlers, and if I'd wanted them they could have had them in a week.
would be nice to know what fuse does what when theres an issue at least i could know what system to start looking through when something isnt right and as for the undercarriage parts the 9040 and link belt 3400 had an oddball undercarriage at the time bigger than a 20t but smaller than a 30 and nowadays they just skip from a 20 t uc to a 30 for chains and pads and such
