Hello, My 416 with a Perkins engine rpms drop significantly when under a load ( when using any hydraulic ).For example; When operating the backhoe, setting the engine speed to 1000 rpm under no load, the engine speed will drop to 500 rpm when putting any load on the engine, as though a governor is not operating. This issue seems to have started suddenly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Dave
When was the last time the fuel filters were changed?
The filter was changed a few months ago. The machine seems to have enough power to push and drive uphill etc. It is most noticeable when setting the throttle speed and putting a load on the engine; using the backhoe. Thank you for the reply, Dave
So does it seem to have the same power going uphill as it always had, but the hydraulics drag the engine down more? How long have you had this machine? How does the exhaust smoke compare between dragging the engine down to 1,000 going up a hill vs using the hydraulics?
Delmer, The machine seems to go uphill the same as always (and it's pretty steep). I have had this machine around 10 years. It was used to clear some land and for underground utilities for my business and house, now it is used only occasionally. the exhaust from both scenarios seems to be the same. I will check it out more closely today though. Thanks, Dave
That being the case a question. Is this particular model equipped with a signal resolver circuit in the hydraulic system..? Because if so the symptoms sound like the classic ones of a ball in a resolver valve stuck.
Yes it has a resolver network Nige. I wonder if there is a hoe circuit, maybe pedal controlled that is seized up and slightly engaged putting a parasitic load on the hydraulic system. Have seen this happen on a C model and it melted a hole through the hyd tank. Later Bob
