930G Wheel Loader Cooling Fan Not Working

keith@cooglerconstruction · 2024-11-06 09:56

I have a 930G just replaced the engine and now the cooling fan does not run. Machine Serial Number 930GVTWR00908 Codes showing on IT Cat Computer: 102-3 Boost Pressure Sensor Voltage Above Normal 291-5 Engine Cooling Fan Solenoid Current Below Normal 473-3 Charge Pressure Sensor Voltage Above Normal Anyone have information on wiring or fault issue with this machine.

See where the attached gets you. Do you have a complete electrical schematic.? Because you are probably going to need one.

I would be looking for the accumulator charge sensor that is usually located on the right side of the engine. If it is unplugged or broken as the code suggests the charge/ fan pump will be giving priority to brake accumulator charging.

No I do not have any electrical diagrams for this machine.

I’ll send you one. Keep an eye on your message inbox.

    Thank you

Before I could check some of those codes now another issue has shown itself the cat computer no longer reads the transmission control information, and the machine will not crank any advice on what could all of a sudden cause this it was at least cranking before. I checked all of the fuses pulled each one and checked for ohms no fuse problem. Are there any mega fuses for me to check I looked for them?

There are some large resettable breakers in engine compartment from what I remember. They can burn out, or trip. Have you tested the cables or grounds including the disconnect switch. If I seen the schematic, could give you some simple test to do. Is the machine in neutral, are battery connections clean. Does the dash power up. If you answer some of these questions, I am sure Nige will give you some expert advice. He fires on all cylinders every day. Simon C

The attached shows all the locations of the fuses/circuit breakers.

Checked all the fuses and circuit breakers again all good did find lose ground at battery switch. tightened up no change still not seeing transmission control on cat computer says blank box Flash Required, and it used to show the transmission control on the list instead of blank box.

I think you’re going to have to start digging in to the CAN network communication. It certainly sounds like a connection issue somewhere.

Tell us a bit more...... Is the engine a genuine Cat (Reman or Rebuild) or was it supplied by A N Other.? Do you have a Serial Number.?

In post number 7 you state that you have no more crank. Is it possible that the transmission is not communicating that it is in neutral, subsequently no start. Was wondering if this unit was heavily washed recently and water got in a connection, and now it is corroded enough for no signal or too low of voltage. Good to look at all big connectors as maybe 1 has come loose or water in. Be careful with the large plugs with many pins as they are a little more difficult to line up key way. Wondering if a cable is blown internally, have seen a few times over the years. Was looking at schematic for quite a bit and think you have a connection problem as suddenly more problems came up ( no crank ). Can you tell us anything more. Simon C

Wondering if a pin or more was pushed back in a connector, when the engine was changed out. Sometimes there is enough connection to run for a while, and then nothing. There is a couple power relays that also need to be checked, but I am leaning towards 1 or more plug ins that are loose or apart. Simon C

(For the fan issue)If different ECM went in with the engine then a fan calibration needs to be done just went through this recently. Fan would not run and codes for brake charging after reman install.calibration cured that. Also make sure ECM configuration matches original configurations

Curious if you were able to figure out your no crank and fan not running. Simon C

Not yet was dealing with the D6T issue it was current problem at the lockout solenoid in the wiring. Getting back on the other machine on Monday

Any progress yet on you're Cooling fan problem. Could be simple, could be complicated. wait on your findings. Simon C

Still searching for the cause of why I lost communication with the transmission information on ET now the machine will not even crank still.

Need to see the schematic for that wheel loader to see if the computer is sending power to the start relay, wherever it is hiding. Could also see what is powering the computers in case the power is not getting there. The start relay is usually visible in the engine compartment somewhere. Would have to look at the electrical schematic to see which wire is feeding the relay coil to close the contacts. Did you get the electrical schematics from Nige. They take some time to look at and learn, but am able to find some simple tests if I study them some. Simon C

1 -Your main power relay #241-8368 ( Found on right side of cab behind bottom door window, either inside of cab or through outside, not sure ) It is fed by a large 6 gauge red cable. When the power goes out the relay it goes out by 4 Purple 10 Gauge wires.. Is there power on any of these purple wires to start with , with Key ON.? Should be decent draw test light or bulb. What voltage is there? 2- Your start relay #118-3534 is fed by big red wire (109-RR1), when relay is energized by computer the power leaves by wire (304-E8 ) white wire. Is there strong power to this wire ? These 2 test can rule out some problems. Need to know if decent power is even getting to controllers. Simon C

Start Relay is on right side of engine compartment. Part # 118-3534

  22. #22Simon C2024-11-30 14:42

Start Relay is only energized when key is in start position from what I seen. Simon C

It's not just the transmission, the "Monitoring System" is also missing from that ECM list you posted earlier. For the transmission ECM to be "blank boxed" it usually takes more than an electrical fault. They're usually more robust than that. Has someone been playing with this? What work has been carried out so far? Putting the fan not working aside, it's time to check datalink wires using the schematic Nige sent you. Disconnect the three ECMs and run continuity tests on all of them, wiggling the harnesses in every accessible location. There's only three ECMs and a service (ET) connector to worry about. Next, your kinda stuck now with needing Cat ET with dealer privileges so you can install transmission software back in it. Honestly if the trans ECM blank boxed itself I would be recommending to replace it. The loss of transmission software is the cause of your no-start. Engine wont start if it can't determine what gear is selected. That's a safety feature. Wild guess here... the datalink wires have an intermittent open/short somewhere. This caused a corrupted datalink signal and killed the trans ECM. This also explains why the monitoring system ECM stopped communicating. Maybe it died too? Please prove me wrong

Keith, have you had a chance to check anything on your loader yet. Will be interesting to see if connection or computer problem. Keep us posted. Simon C
