mcratchet ยท 2014-06-26 09:45

i have a 2001 cat 950g that will not shift in auto everytime it shifts to 2nd gear it pops right back to first. when i do it manually works fine one thing i noticed when i change the selector 1-4 the 2nd gear does not show up on the display it still says 1st but 3&4 shows up. Has anybody had this kind of problem before also does anyone have a service manual on this 950g ser# 5fw02163 thanks in advance!

I think I would be looking at the electrical side first, maybe the 1-4 shifter control on the column that sends the gear indication to the panel. PM me with your e-mail address if you want the Electrical Schematic for the machine. I assume that you haven't checked for Fault Codes..? When you first turn the key on, look at the top RH corner of the Monitor System panel - you should see "SERV CODE" light up and then go out when the system self-test completes. If it goes out at the end of the self-test and then almost immediately comes back on again you have Active Fault Codes in the Power Train Electronic system. If any Code exists it will need to be diagnosed and fixed before proceeding further.

If you want an electrical schematic then send me a PM with your e-mail address. Did you know you can read the codes yourself if you make a simple tool...? All it needs is 3 switches, a box to mount them in, some 16SWG auto cable and a Deutsch connector ............ Here's a link on how to build the Click Box. HeavyEquipmentForums

Make sure the kick down button on the boom control handle is not stuck in.

ok i have 2 codes 627-2 torque converter sensor and 1327-3 left brake pedal, im guessing the torque converter sensor might be my problem? does anyone know where the torque sensor is located?

Should be on the torque out put shaft/trans input. Measures trans input speed and compares to trans out put to give clutch slippage %. I think pedal switch/sensor might be problem it controls trans neutralizer. Later Bob

can i just replace that sensor under the pedal or is that something that has to be programmed?

I would not just go replacing sensors on a whim without good reason. There will be a specific troubleshooting procedure for each of them. Drop me a PM with your email address. Repeating what John said above, before you go anywhere else check that the kickdown switch (located on top of the lift control lever) is not stuck in the ON position.

are you talking about the joystick in the cab that picks up the bucket?
