I have a 85j cat 955l that sometimes wants to go forward when i put it in reverse any help would be appreciated.
My guess would be the shift linkage under the seat is worn and/or hanging up. One part of the linkage shifts 123, the other shifts F/R. They seldom get lubed and tend to wear out.
Yeah he's right. I think you'll find that if you "slap" it from side to side it will work better. Just worn bits. I think you will feel a lot of free play in the shifter from side to side when this is going on.
