Hello looked at a 963c today and have a question for the experts here. On flat hard ground the machine wouldnt move unless the engine was probably 2/3 throttle. At idle and half idle it would just bog down a little and barely move. Is this par for the course or is there something amiss here? It kinda concerned me when looking at it. Tracked straight and everything but only got to run it for about 15 minutes. thanks
A Hystat needs full power to travel. They must have full throttle to move and do any work. They can be moved around at low power but will not work that way. The throttle must be fully open and the travel control is used to control the travel speed. The engine speed sensor will cause the travel speed to change as needed to maintain engine speed under different loads. Later Bob
Thanks for the reply. my excavator will move around at idle so i guess i assumed this should too. Is it normal for a machine like this 963 to not move at all at idle? thanks
Yes it's a closed loop system with bidirectional flow, a true HyStat system, the excavator is a hydraulic drive with single direction oil flow from the pump. The Hystat pump parks at zero swash plate angle and can pump oil either direction with one direction of shaft rotation. The excavator pump swash plate moves between min and max angles always pumping oil in one direction with one direction of shaft rotation. Later Bob
