ADDING HYDRAULIC THUMB

MIKE POIRIER · 2023-07-27 11:46

MY 2006 KOMATSU PC50 doesn't seem to have any extra ports ....my thoughts are to put a 6 way diverter valve to the foot control for the boom swing . what else would i need to add to avoid any casualties along the system? cheers

I think you need to do it right. Meaning you need to put it on a valve you can regulate the pressure. Thumb circuits need to be able to bypass fluid back when you curl the bucket to keep from bending things like the cylinder rod.

No auxillary spool in the main valve? Komatsu isn't popular out here, do they use a solid block for a main valve or individual slices?

Good day Have you considered connecting the thumb cylinder and bucket cylinder in parallel. Kind regards Uffex

With the use of the foot control for boom swing ,my thought was to be able to control it without adding a whole lot . Since i don't use the boom swing at all really, i figured adding a diverter valve plumbed to a cylinder for the thumb (with a pressure relief/control valve)might be the easiest. Was hoping there was an easy way.

So they would act as one?..........with a diverter valve to shut it off?....hmmmm

Good day Mike Depending on how you plumb the device & choice of valve, you could have Independent or combined operation. This is all that is necessary for the grasping and moving of material. I can give you more information if it is of interest. Kind regards Uffex

that would be great , sounds like less plumbing to do on the boom

You can do it that way but you will have to add a inline relief valve set arount 2000 psi

We got one excavator that they have dedicated as the “do anything machine” and it has multiple valves and lines ran up and down the boom and stick. If you don’t know what your doing the machine will destroy its self in about 3 seconds.

I installed a AMI thumb on my jd310k n and installed a summit hydraulic 30 gpm pretty sure it said 3000psi rating mounted on boom with a tiny switch they sell on left stick of my 2 stick controls n diverted the extent a hoe circuit for foot petal so as not to move hands off controls to operate, mine 12volt very simple to do been using it 2 years maxing it out building boulder wall, trees stump the Ami is a VERY HEAVY DUTY THUMP.message me or I can post pictures for you.

Good day The only relief required is that for the thumb positive illustrated in the schematic. Kind regards Uffex
