advice on running an excavator

dig dug · 2007-08-30 16:31

i was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on running an excavator. i am going to start a job soon running one and i have never really ran one before. i've got a few years experience running a case backhoe with the pedal swing controls. i never really used wobble sticks. i'm wondering how hard the transition will be. i was pretty good on the case so i'm hoping i can adapt pretty quick, but i could use some pointers if anyone has any.the hoe i'm going to be using is a larger one, about 150,000# i think, so i'll be doing mass excavating mostly.

Hey Truckie, why don't you invite him down to the yard maybe Saturday, and let him practice smashing copiers? (Was this a bad idea to keep this subject alive :beatsme :badidea :stirthepot ?..)

Heck no, we got to have fun. Sure why not I just got another truck load of copiers in today. Either that or he is going to have to track me down on my new job. Me and my machine are being sent out Tuesday morning to finish up bringing down a old coal tipple and wash tower.

i'm actually from latrobe, about an hour outside of pittsburgh. the job didn't start yet, it should start by the end of the month. i'm not sure exactly where but its around the parkway and 79. i think were doing a v cut through a mountain for a new road. i was thinking about renting a mini excavator to practice up on the controls so when i start i know what i'm doing.the control patterns should all be the same right? put me in a 580 case and i'll scratch your back with the hoe but this is all new to me so i'm kinda nervous.
