We are looking for a hyd detach lowboy and I have found a couple nice ones that are spring ride. Would we regret this? The one I'm liking the best is an 02 Fontaine. For the same money would you pick an 02 spring ride Fontaine or an 2007 FERREE air ride?
What's the price/spec difference between the 07 Ferree and the 02 Fontaine? From my experience most people would prefer the Ferree neck hook-up to the Fontaine but having said that Fontaine makes a good product.
Forgot to address the air vs spring...haha...primary purpose for thread. I'll be very interested to see what others say about this. Most of the feedback I get is that air is definitely a superior product however when considering price, sometimes it's deemed not necessary as it is typically slightly more expensive. The big advantage to me for an air suspension on a lowboy is not necessarily the smooth ride (yes this is an advantage) but more the ability to quickly and easily adjust your ride height when you have height sensitive cargo. Some would argue that a spring suspension is much more durable, especially in off-road conditions but I don't think that is a primary concern. Lets hear from the experts...
The guys who move my excavator love their air rides smooth ride and so bridges a low in my area and they have to lower the hieght to get through then rasies it back to normal an the entrance to my shop the one corner is lower when pulling out they put it up there pretty good just so they snah the deck on the road at the moment im looking at a kuafman air ride 50 ton they seem like a nice float. If you go 3 axle float it air ride is allways nice because you can lift the front axle so you only wear out like a tandem, my buddys load king 55 ton float the back axle is stationary but the other 2 axles lift when hes not using them he say it makes a big difference speciall when he only does long hauls and move my excavator once in a while he we never go back to spring
