I'll start off by admitting I am far from a heavy equipment mechanic!!! Just forced to work on them. Long story short, hired a guy to install new battery cables, well, I have a feeling it was done wrong, and don't wanna mess up my new starter. Anybody know if it positive ground, or negative? And I am assuming it is 24 volt. Early 70's 645 Allis. Excellent junkyard machine that has been almost trouble free. Just one of those things I should have done myself.
Well, you could ask the person who did the job if he recalls? It shouldn't damage the starter but it'll just spin the wrong way. Can you get any clues off of the generator/alternator? Usually they'll have a tag that'll say POS if its a + ground.
