All HD6 models up till 1970 had a letter after the HD6 stamp; ie B, E, EP, or G. G was the track loader version. After 1970 they used a series of numbers and letters ie 40M, 70C, 37A 40M is a dry backend HD6B. 70C was wet backend HD6E and 37A is HD6G loader your 40M22292 is 1970 build just after the letter series started at 22251

yes. machine was bought new in 64. but the tractor that the rearend came out of was a 1970 model bulldozer. i do remember it was a bulldozer that the engine compartment was burned so the burned dozer was a 1970 model

hey merv. the guy who bought the machine off my dad in the 80s tore the transmission up. dad sold him one out of another hi lift he had. the guy said it wouldnt fit due to transmission housing was different so the guy had the guts swapped out

yes originally the model B and G had the same bevel gear and pinion in the transmission. But somewhere in the 21000 serial numbers. both those machines were updated to the newer bevel gear and pinion design along with different final drive gears that the HD6E had had since number 14484. So consequently the HD6B,E,G all used same transmission and final drive gears from somewhere in the mid 21000 serial numbers up to the last HD6 built in 1974 which was 25271
