Angle cylinder for a case 550g

south texas ยท 2017-08-26 11:44

Previous owner didnt tighten down bolt in the ange cylinder for my case 550g. Barrell and piston are shot. Anyone know of a good source for 2nd hand cylinder? Did case use this cylinder on other equipment? A backhoe? Part number is 140146A1.

Might look to see if your case dealer has a used parts department.

Another alternative is have a hydraulic shop rebarrel and new piston, any decent shop will have lathe service to do so, most of time will be a better assembly than the OE unit.

Also, check with any small independent machinists nearby. The local hydraulic shop farms the work out, so you might as well get it done at the source and save some money if you know who can do it.

Thanks, this cylinder is beyond repair. Barrell, piston and rod are in chewed up. If the same cylinder was used on other equipment like a backhoe it might be easier for me to locate.

Not hard to replace a barrel nor turn out a piston even a new rod. Good luck on locating used, may need to put it on machinery trader in the parts search section to find a yard with one.

You could try searching around some case parts sites, or enter that number in machinerytrader's parts search to see what's available and maybe if that's a shared part. I kinda doubt the angle cylinder is going to be the same size as something on a backhoe, but you never know. For that strategy to work it would almost have to be a cylinder that survives, not the bucket or stabilizer cylinder. Case most likely made lots of cylinders with the same diameter barrel, piston, gland and rod, so you might save a machinist a little time with a good used cylinder to cut down, or add your ends to.

Call or email Johnnie at Frontier Tractor Parts in Coldspring, Tx. I bet he can help you out. They part out heavy equipment.

Thank you, I will try them. I bet Coldspring is getting pounded by the storm. Where I am at we were west of the hurricane so we didn't get much rain...Coldspring is near Houston where the flooding is occurring. Here's a few pictures of the damage...all because the last person inside the cylinder didn't tighten the bolt (had pipe wrench marks on the bolt head).

Gulf South Equipment 225 357 3757, and Broken Tractor LLC 800 909 7060. Both are in Louisiana.

What is the part number on the gland where the rod comes out of cylinder?

You might also try Schaefer Enterprises of Wolf Lake, IL.

Gland part number is 1346417C1. Thinking now I may be just as well off buying an aftermarket cylinder on the web...$725+shipping. Local Case shop said cylinder no longer available through Case, and used ones I've found are only $125 less than the new aftermarket.

Bad thing about a cylinder in a location that gets beat up, not easy or cheap to find used. Good thing: available aftermarket.

The angle cyl. was up dated and part number changed to 140146A1. There was a problem with the piston bolt I believe. I found some online for about same price.
