Any specifications in the building code for earth work?

I am wondering if there are any specific items in the building code for earth work. I have briefly looked at the building code and did not find any specific references for earth work. I am wondering about all earth work, excavation, water sewer lines installation, basements road building etc.

Most county and city building code's in Fl. require the finish floor elevation be 16 or 18 inches above the centerline of the street. Then you can grade the yard so water run's to the front. Trick I use was to open all the window's, stick a 4 foot level thru every window and measure to the floor and make a dirt print the same distance outside. Grade to the print and water will alway's drain away from the house. A house built to VA spec's the inspector will check the yard grade.

What jurisdiction are you talking about? The building codes vary from place to place, you know.

Not sure what u are looking for but like WOLF said is true about "local" building code vary from place if u are looking for info on road building codes u can always get the states "Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction" ????

I agree that most codes vary depending on jurisdiction , also type of soil and the content of soil , I know we did a couple of ballfields and the money came from the federal gov't with a set of specs. even down to the infield soil mix. and batters box mix over and above the townships specs. , if your a small contractor like me you have to really check the local codes and inspectors , i was burned a few times early on and learned my lesson

Each state has it's own building code, but in NY for instance, there really isn't anything in that manual specifically for dirt work. There are suggestions for instance on proper drainage for new construction so that there's no heavy lateral pressure against a basement wall. There's tons of variables in our business that's why many jobs have to have an engineer so it's designed site specific. After a while, you just know the difference between right and wrong.

Yes, Tuney is right there is nothing in the Michigan building codes about backfilling a basement u can use what came out as backfill but in Michigan we have a LOT of blue clay and i would never backfill with clay we ALWAYS use clean fill sand it cost more but make life a lot easier down the road.
