I got an application for local 825 and am now scheduled for an aptitude test on locating information. Does anyone know if it is timed or how it is graded and the difficulty of passing it. Is there levels? Thanks to anybody than can help.
Not sure what NJ does, but most aptitude testing at the union hall level is done to see what level of knowledge you possess starting out. It is typically used to see what credit if any you will be giving in the apprenticeship program. About 25 years ago it was fairly common for a contractor to call the hall and want somebody(a friend) signed up as a journeyman and dispatched to them. A few weeks late the person would be in the hall with no skills when laid off. The program changes are designed to weed out the buddy system and insure that journeymen are well trained. In our northern MN program there has only been two applicants in the last 10 years that aced the test and started as journeymen.
