Construction Unions, and to an extent, larger companies have been doing apprenticeship programs for a more than a hundred years in some places. For years we have gone to high school continuing education forums every year to show those graduating kids that weren't college bound that there was other opportunities. Thousands of kids ended up with a good paying construction jobs(and no college loans) doing what they liked because of nationwide programs like this. Most if not all union apprentice program are taught by certified teachers and in many cases college credits are available.
