Asphalt removal

cat320 ยท 2007-06-07 17:54

I went to look at a relatively small job for a friend of mine he was told a small pile of asphalt to be removed. so he asked if i could go down to see how much because we would work together me and the machine and his dump. got to the the site could not find it then found some one at the house and found out it was in a small fenced in area that would need to be wheel barrowed out and really hand loaded into a 1 ton probably 1-2 loads. disposal would be at a plant that takes it about 10-15 miles away. What would some of you charge for a labor job like that?

Shovel + wheelbarrow + back breaking labor = big $$$$$ But seriously, if the asphalt is cured (which I assume it is) it will be a PITA to break it apart and get it loaded - by hand. Probably need a jackhammer of some sort to get the pile into smaller pieces. I would estimate at least 2 days of labor (8 hours/day) with 2 guys at your labor rate that you need to make a profit. Also include a jackhammer (if needed - 2 days rental) as well as the truck time. If it is 2 loads to the plant 10-15 miles away I would include at least 2-3 hours of truck time per load. That way you can get paid for your truck being there. Of course if there is a disposal fee then include it as well with a 10-20% mark-up. Also mark-up your equipment rental 10-20% for your time to pick it up and return to the rental house. Hope this helps.

Is it a pile or is it paved? If paved I would cut big sections with saw and lift them out, we do this all the time for walks and drives. If it is a pile and broken up then you are in for some work. Probably a days work for two guys if you can ramp up into the truck. No chance of popping a fence section out? I would say hourly including the runs to the plant.

Well it was all riped up and wheelbarrowed into a fenced in area not accesable by machine, some is in piles the majority of it is put in a 10x10 pit about a foot deep and packed in like fill.

Well that sounds like it will suck. Are you helping a friend or is this a job? Hard to tell from first post?

Well it's my friends job if they accept his price i will probbaly be working with him to get it out. I really wanted to leave when the guy that lived there shows me all this stuff placed so nice and far in the yard not acceable by machine. So the wait is on weather or not the owner likes the price which i told my friend should be closr to $1K if i had to bid it only because it was all labor and an all day job
