I found a set of axles to swap under my lowboy, due to old ones being about impossible to find brake parts for . They r 8 lug 275 mm hub centered,, they tell me needs a 19.5 tire and rim combo, anyone run this? Thoughts on this set up? These tires hard to find? Thanks!
First of all, what size tires were on the old axles? 19.5 is very common, but they are significantly taller than the 15" that were customary on lowboys. There is also an 8 hole hub-piloted set-up for semi's(22.5 & 24.5). If your old axles had 15", you'll want to go to 17.5, which are the same heights as the 15"(8.25-15=215/75R17.5,9.00-15=235/75R17.5, etc.)Not a lot of lowboys running 19.5's, but a lot of the union car haulers run them.
