I have a Hitachi EX 160 LC-5 and I have been using the ESCO Style V23 SYL Vertilok teeth, they seem to be digging good only broke one tooth, A friend of mine told me to use the Tiger tooth, He states they are stronger and would be better for my project. I am clearing 53 acres of Pine / Hardwood stumps. Any Ideas Thanks, T.S.
You should be fine with the teeth you have but ya he is right they are better teeth.
He is incorrect, the v23vy is nowhere near as strong as an syl. If you are on very hard ground where you need penetration or are trying to split the stumps with the teeth the VY is a good choice but if you are just digging around the stumps in softer ground I'd stick with the SYL. We stumped 40ac with a EX700 that had 4 v57vy's on a 36" bucket. that beast would push right through stumps and split them in half. Not sure it would work the same with a 160 though. LOL
If you are stumping that much it would be a whole lot easier and faster to use a single shank ripper on your machine (it will be cheaper in the long run) just make sure you get a good one that will last. not one of the cheaper one's. If you have a thumb you can still pick up stuff as long as the ripper shank is the rite length
Tiger teeth are very good in hard, compacted rocky ground where you need to break up the rock, particles that have compressed with the soil, they make it easier for sure.
i would also suggest a Ripper mate i think it would be a lot better. i would not go near the tigers as i think you would snap them off easy as they are not as strong as SYL's thats for sure. but if you can afford it look at a ripper and as Clintm said make sure its a good ripper and not just a cheap SEC or something like that mate.
