***, he is beating the hell out of that machine. it must be a rental, but still...

Ive done similar things to machines, whats the big deal? Sometimes you have to do what you can with what the boss gives you. I tore all but 1 tooth off a bucket once cause the boss said keep going. I called and told him the first shank ripped off. ripped the rest off the next day, shanks and all, most of the front cutting edge too.

Well, there is always someone that get the order to do it like that. And some do it without the order. Anyway, this is destroying the machine, you will in a very short time get broken "bushings" in the stick or boom. And that may cause the bushing to squise on the bolt and make it turn/come out. Crack's can also apear in the structure or your main turntable bearing will fail. Greasing helps, but after some blows it gets "shot" out of the joint. I bet you old guy's now the change in sound when you'r driving the hammer on a old machine. Sounds hollow right after greasing, and after a couple of hours you get the sharp smells in the whole machine.(meaning; grease again) If you do a lot of loading of blasted rock we normaly weld a peace a wearpart on the side and back of the bucket. Or a weared out old tooth. With it you can split blasted rock. Yoy curl the bucket, like when loaded on the lowbed, and drops the stick to split the rock. Functions very well on blasted rock, because its already "shacken" by the blast. Other types of "rockwork" should be dealt with a hammer or blasting rigg.:Banghead

Rock splitting tool. I found a drawing of a typical bucket for Norway. Notice the typical shape, because its is used for rock handling/loading. Very long underside coming forward from the "closed room" in the back. The little steelplate on the back is used for splitting rocks. Welded on the left side of the bucket so u can see it. I have drawed two red lines to it.

Welcome to the Forums, James! Thank you for mentioning HEF there as well. Uhh, Nick might appreciate you spelling his name correctly though. He's a very sensitive soul.

The only thing I see the operator doing wrong is the trucks are not close enough to the hoe. Looks like a lot of small rock in what he is loading and by spilling the buckets on the side of the trucks it puts debris on and around the tires. Those tires are $$$$ and everything you can do to keep them in good shape is important. But that 385 weighs a ton and the material he is sitting on may not support that beast any closer to a cut wall next to the trucks. It's hard to tell without being there.:beatsme

but if you look closely there are two white hats standing there watching him. 10 to 1 they told him to do it or go home.
