Please define "going bad". Breaking down electrically or something else.?

the heaters keep losing continuity ,not burning up. We have used several from different manufactures

Any chance of a picture showing where they are mounted and maybe a picture of one removed. Guess also would need to know if they are the tank type or a coil in the water jacket type. Also are operators unplugging before starting engine?

on a 33 series cat engine they are mounted internally by the oil cooler and yes we always unplug before operating the last heater lasted 30 years then we lost the water pump last year and it started burning up the elements but there is no visible damage to them i tried several manufactures. I'm going to try a canister type on it coming from the block drain on the left side of the engine and going into the heater hose which is under the thermostat. We checked voltage 121 volts and checked the common all good and there is other equipment plugged into the same circuits. I had the radiator removed and boiled out, new oil cooler and inspected the transmission cooler also flushed the engine several times to get oil out of the water jacket from when the water pump shaft broke also reconditioned the head. This really has us baffled.

Plugged into a 220V bull rail? Probably not the case in Washington. I’ve seen it happen. Don’t laugh. Only thing it could be is an air pocket. Maybe a hose with a collapsed liner or, incorrect water regulator. Especially, with all the cooling system work recently completed.

We cooked 3 in a row on a Cummins 8.3 because the tech filled the system and immediately went to check heater operation. It was determined that the heater wasn’t submerged, there was an air pocket. The elements had burst.
