Bobcat 743 throttle problem

chili4x4 ยท 2013-07-24 09:56

I have Bobcat 743. It starts and idles fine. However, as the throttle opened, it will increase in RPM, then surge (ramp up RPM) to a point where it is not usable.. Ideas?:Banghead

You mean the engine will run out of control, as in the speed goes excessively high and out of control? Or the engine speed becomes high and then revs up and down and will cut out under load?

The first scenario is more accurate. I am not afraid the motor will over rev and become damaged, it runs at top speed and the machine is not well controllable then

The engine speed will get excessively high and out of control and then will bog down under load.

Welcome to HEF chili4x4. :drinkup Sounds like either the fuel filter or the strainer inside the tank is getting clogged. Starving for fuel will make many diesel engines do funny things including revving up with no control. As fuel becomes more and more restricted it will eventually stall altogether.

Is there a good amount of black smoke under load? I was thinking governor since it is overspeeding.

Actually there is surprisingly little smoke from this motor at any rpm.. some under load, but nothing to give pause
