which is better ? Is the duetz cooled with oil only , or oil and liquid cooling ? looking at machines 773-943 and dont know which machine or engine suits my needs. my budget is 10k, need reliable machine , and more than 50hp. mostly using pallet forks, root rake, toothed bucket and stump bucket around house , and a couple side jobs
Bobcat over all has done very good with picking engines. Don't over heat a kubota and it will run forever. A customer of mine, his S220 just turn 20,000 hr, no engine problems ever. Duetzs are pretty good. Change the timing belt every 3,000 hr and you should be fine. Duetzs are engine oil cooled, they in general run cool. I just don't see machines with perkins or isuzu enough to give any real option. Personlly, I would just stay away from something that old anyways. Machines didn't really have engine options other the turbo or not 773. If you want more then 50 hp, a turbo 773 is about your only option in a 700 series. 863 and 873 used the same duetz. Early S250 also had duetzs before switching to kubota. All said, engine manufacture can't be looked at that hard, they were used in different size machines so direct comparison is kinda hard.
Hard to beat the Kubota imho. 773 G Series with Kubota turbo is a solid machine.
overall, kubota has been the best of the engines that bobcat has used since they started using them back in the late 70's/early 80's, with the introduction of the 643 & 743. mitsubishi, wisconsin, petter, ford, duetz ( both air coled & liquid cooled), isuzu, perkins, puegot have all come and gone. lot of the recycling /scrap guys liked the duetz cuz they could run all day, never clean debris from the cooler, and usually not overheat.
Kubota all the way
Definitely take my hat off to kubota. Solid bloody things. Isuzu have and still do make quality engines.
the ones i've been around, ( not many) seem to be good running, solid engines. bobcat didnt use them for a long time period, and many are around 20 years old now. bobcat is staying with kubota (as far as i know) IT4 and T4 engines should be hitting the dealers very very soon. :drinkup
looking at a 1999 bobcat 853 with Isuzu engine with 1800hrs,is this a good engine, thanks
is the bobcat S150 about the same size machine as a older 763,looking at a S150 to use grabber bucket on
Isuzu is a good engine. Used a lot in excavators. Although older an 853 with 1800 hours, if it's accurate, would be worth a look. A lot less electronics to deal with than newer machines. Should be a bunch under 10K too. What ever you look at take someone experienced with you to check it out.
I have never met a bad Isuzu motor. They are real popular around here on generators. And Bobcats use the same general platform and size as the generators do.
