Bobcat 743B Fuel solenoid testing

Hi everybody, I have been a member here for 2 years and have tried to help others by answering questions and passing on manuals and info on my grey market Cat 305 ( Mitsubishi MM55sr**. My friend has a 1992 Bobcat 743B skid steer and is having a problem. We looked through all the skid steer info on the forum and did not find anything relevant. His problem is fuel solenoid when key is turned on clicks on and then clicks off immediately. Any thoughts on testing the 12v DC 6681513 4303 solenoid? He has tried putting 12v to center wire and solenoid kicks in and there is no continuity on the hold in coil with the solenoid in or out. A new timer was put in and did not solve problem. Oil sensor off top of transmission (double contact one is on position other off) has also been replaced with no result. This component was replaced because it was broken. I mention it because it is tied into the timer. Many thanks for your time. All the best from farmerboy

fuel solenoid is a 2 coil system, primary coil pulls for approx 5 seconds, then the secondary coil holds. hold coil gets it power from the timer. pull coil gets it power from the relay/fuse if you have no continuity on the hold coil it's probably bad. :drinkup

I agree with crewchief, if you're showing no continuity between black and red wire, sounds like the hold coil has lost its smoke. And just as a reminder, if you replace the fuel solenoid coil, make certain the linkage adjustment allows solenoid spool to retract fully inside the solenoid coil. If the spool doesn't bottom out, you'll cook your new solenoid coil.

i've seen them so far out of adjustment, that they will not hold. usually after mr customer's "mechanic" has replaced it, and "diagnosed" it for a week. :drinkup

Yeah, and that's the ones that have a piece of wire to hold it in run position by the time you get to it. Real safe with a 743.
