Bucket will not rise CAT 930K

micmut · 2025-03-17 17:10

The loader was brought back to the shop with the bucket in the dump position and will not raise? The boom arms lift and lower normally but the bucket will only stay in the dump position. The red alert light is lit and showing the brake accumulator (0) mark. Its a 930K vin CAT0930KTRHN01765 Is it possible to put it into a service mode to find codes? Would seem only the raise bucket position on the joystick is not working.

This is what is displayed on the dash!

See attached. To enter Service Mode start with engine/key OFF. Key on then off. Repeat this 3 times within 10 seconds but the 3rd time leave the key ON.

    Thanks Nige was able to get the codes! They are 14! 6 have an X now to decipher them would you have a code list by chance? 1 0 E583(1) - 2 0 E583(1) - 3 39 70-2 - 4 39 350-3 X 5 39 351-3 X 6 39 357-5 X 7 39 491-5 - 8 39 492-5 X 9 39 1530-5 X 10 39 3654-3 X 11 39 3654-4 - 12 39 3654-8 - 13 E284(3) - 14 E349(1) -

All you need to worry about right now are the 6 codes with an X alongside them. They are the Active ones. 350-3 - Lift linkage position sensor, voltage above normal. 351-3 - Tilt link position sensor, voltage above normal. 357-5 - Rackback solenois #1, current below normal. 492-5 - 3rd Funstion Rearwards solenoid, current below normal. 1530-5 - Quick coupler solenoid, current below normal. 3654-3 - Implement pump pressure sensor, voltage above normal. So the first five out of the six appear to be all addressed by the two attached documents. It seems as though a front wiring harness failure is the culprit. Check out M0129653 first. It applies to all RHN-prefix machines. For the 3654-3 you need to do the PWM sensor signal test - attached.

Can’t you bring up each code in a detailed screen view? My new to me 950m gives details on each one. It looks like in the document that Nige attached above that you should be able to bring up details. That might get you started but you will most likely need the test procedure for each code and even more likely a laptop and ET. Nige is like having wireless diagnostics to the machine so he might be able to guide you through without the laptop!

  6. #6JAJ2025-03-17 20:06

Haha Nige posted at the same time! He’s already all over it!!!!

  7. #7micmut2025-03-18 08:04

Excellent Will see what I might find today! Unfortunately there is not the optional screen in our 930K belive im going to have to read codes from the dash? Yep Nige is fast at the draw

We now have 4 pieces of cat eqwipment and would be nice to have a laptop only my small pockets say easy lol. I ran across this cat diagnostic tool and was wondering what your thoughts are ? I use similar ones for boats like Mercury and Evinrude and was wondering

  9. #9Nige2025-03-18 09:16

At that price it can't be genuine. Whatever source you go to for the ET software (and there are various) I would always recommend to purchase a used genuine OEM Comms Adapter. There are too may bogus adapters sold out of China & India on the market that do not work as described from the get-go then all communication with the seller stops.

I have checked the front harness and found no defects and did find voltages for the 24v and Ground present in many of the pigtails. In thinking it may be in the joystick control, only tilt up of the bucket is not working. all other functions are working fine? Any suggestions what to look for are more then welcome!

The 357-5 Code for the Rackback (tilt back) solenoid is the clue. See attached. To diagnose the Lift & Tilt position sensor faults you can carry out the PWM sensor signal test attached to Post #5 above.

  13. #13micmut2025-03-19 15:32

I switch the wires going to the boom solenoids and bucket and found they work. So have to trace wires ? would seem its in the rollback circuit. would it be from the joystick or ECU? Would you by chance have a wiring diagram for this, or do you feel its a sensor issue?

  14. #14Vetech632025-03-19 16:42

With that many low/high voltage faults you are going to be looking at the wiring. Look in the areas where the harness may bend or wrap around something sharply. Also check every wire harness connection in that circuit system by pulling each one apart. Sometimes the connector itself can short internally and you can't see the damage.

  15. #15Nige2025-03-19 17:43

I’ll send you one. According to the 357-5 Code the problem is the rackback solenoid or the circuit to it. You proved this by switching the lift/lower solenoid wiring with the dump/rackback and the problem moved. Did you do the test procedure I posted above.?

  16. #16micmut2025-03-20 17:23

ok i found broken wire and repaired it and its now 17 codes from the original 14? I know working on cars clearing the codes help finding the problem. Is there a way of clearing the codes so able to start fresh.

  17. #17Nige2025-03-20 17:51

Is the bucket rackback function working now.?

  18. #18micmut2025-03-20 17:59

No the severed or grounded wire was the rollback sensor

  19. #19Nige2025-03-20 18:09

Tilt linkage position sensor you mean.? So what happened when you did the solenoid valve test in post #13 for the rackback solenoid.? Turn up anything.? It should have done. I have marked up the test procedure an uplodaded it again. try the FMI05 test on what's marked as the TILT_CYL_SOL_RACK on the diagram on Page 8. I think the power wire for that solenoid is E921 Pink but you also need to be testing the common return wire 975 White

  20. #20micmut2025-03-21 08:13

Did find white wire having voltage. And pink must be severed as no signal! The solenoid dose work fine from using another control. Will try the test and try to follow the pink back into the machine. Removed the cover from the right side and found the ecu embed ded in mud. I'm thinking there were issues before before we procured this machine

  21. #21micmut2025-03-26 15:01

Update after chasing down wires decided to pull the harness and take a good look! found the covering around it was full of water and rusted the steel causing it to cut the wires! Now to decide to replace or continue repairing it? Part # 587-3825 Nige sort of suggested this in the start of this thread

  22. #22Nige2025-03-26 15:29

Well colour me surprised - not….!

  23. #23micmut2025-03-28 14:54

well the colour of the wire was the pink that was the main issue! the new wiring harness is here! But taking it out of the box it is different? This should solve a majority of the codes. The loom is like a hydric hose the wires were incased in!

  24. #24micmut2025-03-28 15:02

Having the two harness side by side there is a big difference and it suggested extra brackets. Have all that was suggested to get! Is there a procedure or rerouting info for the new wiring harness? Many of the pigtails are correct. Perhaps I have to use part of the old harness? Any ideas would be more then welcome ?

  25. #25Nige2025-03-28 16:04

Go back to Post #5 on Page 1 and look for an attachment M0123815. That is the installation procedure for the new harness.

  26. #26micmut2025-03-28 16:46

Thanks Nige !!! I didn't realize you had already sent it! Was trying to mock it with the brackets. I see have to drill holes to mount the brackets! Call me blind!

  27. #27micmut2025-04-01 08:25

Nice New wire harness installed and no active codes! Instructions say to lift the cab to dill holes and tap the frame. I might of taken a short cut and welded the brackets in place. Thanks so much for the help!

  28. #28Nige2025-04-01 10:03

You will only have yourself to blame if that quick fix starts a crack in the frame in what to me looks like a very critical area.

  29. #29micmut2025-04-01 10:31

Noted ! The bung that I had to cut off was welded so silly me took for granted and welded it.

  30. #30Nige2025-04-01 10:40

No offence intended but I think there is a bit of difference between the way the factory welds brackets, etc on the frame and the way you did it. There is a science around the process and notwithstanding that even the factory gets it wrong from time to time. You might just get away with it because that plate to which you have welded the support bracket for the harness appears not to actually be part of the top plate of the machine frame.

Happy Camper !! All Codes cleared! Thanks to this forum for all the help.
