May be thats why we prefair cat machines round here. You can find any cat part you need , when you need it. Thougt JD are fine machines when a part is needed, thats a prob.

Unless you want to be able to turn the blade right around backwards to grade in reverse, just remove the swivel and join the hoses together with a couple of nipples. Join them with the blade in the straight position, and then the hoses will twist enough to allow enough blade rotation either side for normal grading, as 45 degrees or so of blade rotation either side should be enough.

Let's see, Champion is part of Volvo now aren't they? Should have a Volvo dealer in your part of the world someplace. Otherwise, take the motor off and run it by a hydraulic shop. They will likely have the seals in stock. Just about any shop could do the job, construction or ag. Here is one Volvo dealer in Manitoba: Westcon Equipment and Rentals Ltd - Winnipeg 380 Keewatin Street Winnipeg, Manitoba R2X 2R9 There are several in Saskatchewan. Good Luck!

Swivel dribble These are quite a crude unit that only uses a few large orings for sealing. Sadly if there is too much wear on the pieces then new rings will not stop the leak.

It could be a "discontinued" model that Volvo has no parts application for it. They may have the parts you need, but if they can't look it up, they can't do anything with it. I agree with Surfer Joe; if you get it off, maybe even join the hoses to do some work, go ahead and take it to a hydro shop. Unless it has a weird seal they should be able to get seals for it. Looks like it only has three hoses going to it, shouldn't take long a all to rebuild it.

I believe it is called a timing valve.

  10. #10plowking7402009-06-01 22:46

no, its not the timing valve. that is located at the front of the circle between the two cylinders that rotate the circle. Im not sure what it is called, I just used to order by the part numbers. the champion dealer in winnipeg should have them. I have replaced the seals once or twice in the 740 I ran in Manitoba . Im not sure who the new dealer is it used to be Wajax, but it has been a while since The address that surfer joe has supplied sounds right, but not the name. another place for parts for older Champions i have found is Jade equipment in edmonton. might even be a little cheaper too. http://www.jadeequipment.com

Hi Guys. I don't want to hijack this thread but since I am new I can't start a new thread. I just picked up a Champion 740. How can I tell the age from the serial number? The number is 740-21-102-9288 TIA DC

I don't know why your local Volvo CE dealer can't find that part for you. That swivel is current and not obsolete. I believe we buy that same one for our C110C grader. If you run into another dead end then give me a call and maybe I can get you a seal kit or replacement valve. One problem is that with dealer and people changes happening so much, the current dealer may not realize that they can sell parts and service for this model Champion grader. It happens more thanyou can imagine. If you have part numbers, send them to me. Thanks, Bryan

sorry for the delay in updating. the grader ended up getting a new cylinder head and then it went off to work for 2 weeks. on saturday i washed it and put it over the pit in buddy barry's shop. the rains came on sunday that will last till tuesday night so GEO Ron and i worked on the grader in dry comfort. when the mine closed we got a bunch of hydralic hoses that have been in a shed for a couple of years. we laid them out on the shop floor and picked what we needed since the nearest hose shop is 300 kms away. after a good day of playing with hoses we got the swivel thing removed and a few loose ends cleaned up. of course the camera does not like taking pictures in buddy barry's shop for some reason. thansk to all that helped and once i live at the end of the world and the computer makes the world a small place. thansk KoO Published Author
