Hi, I am doing an inframe on a w900 with an 04 c15 any advice for finding a good service manual for all the torque values and engine settings? Thanks
Forgot to mention online! Preferably
are you talking about a C15 caterpillar engine ?
Ya, c15 accert bxs
have you looked on ebay, i did see where there is several service and parts manual there for sale for the cat c-15 engine. good luck
Hi, can anyone tell me how I know when I have a c15 accert on top dead centre for #1 piston? Put new sleeves and pistons in and need to get the timing right! Thanks
Do you have the engine serial # ? if so i can look up the procedure.
On a C-15 serial # 6NZ there is a threaded pipe plug on the front side of the flywheel housing, there is possibly a plug on each side of the flywheel housing but only one will line up with the timing pin hole in the flywheel. remove the pipe plug and take a bolt not sure the size, possibly a 5/16 or 3/8 bolt long enough to reach into and touch the flywheel. turn the engine by hand CCW from the rear and hold the bolt into the hole with slight pressure while turning engine untill bolt falls into a thread hole. this will be #1 or #6 top dead center, you will have to see which rocker arms are loose to tell if it is #1 or #6 cylinder.
On most Cat engines, at leaast the off highway types I work on, there is a two bolt plate just above the starter covering the hole for the "barring tool" used to turn engine over by hand. This cover is held on with two 3/8-16 bolts, one about 1 inch long and the other maybe 2 1/2 inchs long. The longer one is the one used to go through the pipe plug hole to index with the threaded hole in the flywheel. NOTE: Don't for get to remove the bolt before starting engine and if you use the "barring tool" make sure that is out also. Don't know of anyone personally who made the mistake but heard from Mack who also uses this same type tool it is not a pretty picture if you forget. Possibly get you a job saying "Do you want fries with that?"
Lol, ok thanks that should help get the job done!
