Can not get this fitting to take grease.

csthompson12 · 2023-12-12 17:00

This is a ‘15 Takeuchi excavator. This lower fitting on the boom swing won’t take any grease. Tried the impact greaser with oil and pb blaster. Pulled the fitting, and grease goes though it fine off. Also no solidified grease behind the fitting. Is it possible the bushing moved or something? Thanks

very possible bushing turned, ran into that a lot on front loaders on backhoes and rear 3 point hitch fittings.

Bushing could have turned. Sometimes there's a groove so the grease should go around to the hole in the bushing. Usually there will be a solid plug in the hole in the bushing blocking the grease flow, either dirt, or solidified grease that was the wrong types mixed or whatever. If you can hold pressure on the grease gun with oil in it while moving the joint back and forth, it might wear the plug down. You could drill through the bushing through the hole. Or pull the pin and clean it out.

I saw a video last night a guy took the grease fitting out and screwed his porta power hose on it.

Try either lifting the boom up or putting down pressure on the boom while greasing. If there is a bit of slop in the pin/bushing fit this will often allow grease into it.

replace the zert ... pipe in porta power thin oil into bearing ... rotate while doing all of this .. maybe some heat too... it will go!

"Been there Done that!" many times. Have even seen where that failed and oil came out between bushing and frame/housing instead of between pin and bushing! When that happens only option is to pull bushing and start fresh.

If all else fails --- measure the distance from the top of the pin to just a little below the grease zerk. Lower the pin and remove the zerk and see if the bushing turned.
