case 1150 transmission re-assembly questions

taggmann ยท 2011-05-15 04:53

I just picked up a1150. the rear is in a basket.. so before i put it back together is there any common issues I should address while it is apart? Everything looks to be in good shape. one trans is out of the housing but is not apart what i can see of the clutches looks good ? also it is missing one of the brakes (complete)? Where is a good place to get a complete brake? are they side specific? thanks

Assuming you have a service manual - you need to set pinion depths, a special tool required. Make sure grooves in shafts that contain oil control seal rings are not worn - rings must sit very snug in grooves. If yours has dry brakes the housings should be same L & R. Do you know why the transmission was opened up?

Taggmann, alrman is correct about the parts and service manual you will need them to check for missing parts and set up. I always like to do a flowrater test if possible first before going into the 1150 trans because of all the pressure and leakage issues that go on while working, but i do enjoy a basket case now and then, there are questions with the missing brake housing and the rear cover off. Some questions for you, are the two top shafts in the trans still, and did you take a good look at the ring and pinion on the side the brake housing was removed, is the track apart on that side so you can bar over that final drive to check for possible input and bull gear noise, may want to drop that final cover and inspect also, need some more info to help you out more, it's alot of setup work wasted if you mis what is wrong with it while it's apart and have to open it up again. What series is your machine ABCDE and is it a loader or dozer. Is it a green machine ?

Hi Airman and Sheepfoot; Thanks for the response; This is a case. ser plate says D1150 300968 ser.. It is a 6way blade and it has 1150 and Torque Converter printed on the side. guessing early 70's machine? I am assuming the D is dozer not series? Anyway, the entire rear is out and the guy trucked it to his house 3 miles away from the machine. a bearing went bad on the front end of the housing, not sure yet which one but he bought a new shaft and bearing. went up to get the serial no today and looking around at the parts. the least I will need is all new seals ( is there a kit) and one trans pack is out. to set the depth will a dial indicator work? the ring gear looks good. Guess the main thing is to get it home and do an inventory. wonder what the thing weighs without the rear , I think complete they are around 26k.lb.? got to find somebody who can haul it. Was just looking at e-sumthn for part and service manuals and only finding 7 digit ser no's? I got 300968 off the side of the operator platform(also off the machine) could it be wrong? or is it just that old.
