Case 1155D engine issue

Cornbower · 2020-01-21 16:48

I was the winner bid on a 1155d at an auction in November. The motor had a miss/smoke that was agreed to be fixed or money back. They determined miss was cylinder #4, pulled the injector and it checked out good. Next that pulled the middle valve cover and said the rockers on #4 both had a substantial amount of free play but wrote it up as worn cam lobes and did not adjust. Not very familiar with the case 504bd engine but is that a likely problem or possibly collapsed lifter if hydraulic? Started right up today in 20° and has good oil pressure at idle.

The cam followers are solid. Best to check the push rods for any damage too. You could adjust the tappets & measure the lift & compare between other cylinders. So you've taken delivery of the machine & they are still offering to repair it?

Machine is still at their location and has been since the auction. They wrote me a check today refunding my money but are coming up with an as is price on it now. I was hoping to get to actually look at it but they had closed the motor back up and decided it is what it is. It seems to be a tight honest machine. Just trying to get a grasp on best / worst scenario should I continue with it
