Hi guys Any of you any experience with Case 1450B engines? I am trying to cure a bad smoking problem coming from the exhaust end of the turbo-there is a distance piece between the turbo and the exhaust pipe leading to the muffler. Are there seals between this distance piece and the turbo (part no A152831) or some sort of sealent? Any help gratefully received Thanks Neil
Are you asking about why the engine is smoking so much, or do you just have an exhaust leak?
You could have a leak commin from the oil line lubricating the turbo. I do believe that you have a case 504 diesel in that dozer which was also a common ag engine put into their large farm tractor of the same time period. Broken tractor wants $575 for a rebuilt turbo. if that helps. I'm not sure who made that specific turbo, but there are speciality shops out there that just do turbos.
Thanks Vantage Tes The problem is that the short 3 inch long discharge tube between the turbo and the muffler has become disconnected from the turbo. The tube appears to just push into the exhaust side the of the turbo casing and there seems to be no way of retaining it in place or of sealing it from leaking. The turbo itself is working fine. Thanks Neil D
Neil is there enough room that you put hose clamps around the tube itself? This would stop it from being able to move side to side.
the farm tractors use the same engine, common problem is too much slop between cone, turbo and next piece of exhaust. tractors used an elbow to direct exhaust up thru hood. bolted down with 4 3/8" bolts, would need to slot the holes so elbow could slide closer to turbo and pinch the cone tighter. should not have play back and forth but just able to rotate the cone piece when all buttoned up. wish I had picture to show ,would be a lot easier.been wrenching on the things since '73' so I have done a lot of them.:drinkup
