Case 1835b wheel bearing

B&B ยท 2026-07-26 15:11

Had another wheel bearing go out on my Case 1835b today, only takes about 40 minutes to have it all disassembled. Compared to the newer cats ive messed with these are a pleasure to change. The last one to go bad was from the cotter pin coming out of the sprocket so it got loose and wallered the bearing out. Ended up finding the two bearings and two seals for 50$ at a local parts place the same day and luckily case thought ahead and used the same bearing and the same seal inner and outer. The bearings are timken LM102910 and the seal is a lyo 57025. Has anyone come up with a good way of keeping the chaincase water free? The machine lives outside and it seems like I am changing the chaincase water out for fresh oil every year

Check the top and sides of the chain cases for covers or fill locations and use silicone or non hardening sealant to seal any potential leak areas. My machine is different but has chain adjusters on top of the chain cases. They call for non hardening gasket sealer under the plates. It allows the plates to slide when adjusting but keeps water from getting in. The recommended sealant is Permatex #2. I recall 1845C's had plastic covers that tended to leak.

My 1835b has the plastic covers with a wing nut and what used to be a foam or rubber gasket, the water tends to sit on top of them and just find its way in little by little

Put some Permatex #2 under the wing nut and on both sides of the gasket for the covers. It will be a little messy but will allow easy removal when required. Could you make a 1 piece gasket out of some medium stiff rubber or foam rubber that will squish a little when you tighten the wing nuts?
