I just want to say this is a great site and very informative. I have a 1972 Case 580b backhoe and need to drain the hyd fluid out of the FEL and the backhoe, units have milky oil in them, they are leaking and will repair, I have not found a drain plug for these. All I have found is the shuttle unit plug and the trans/rear end plug for draining. The other question I have is the transmission shifter dash decal only shows Start on left side, nutrual in the middle with 1st above nutrual and 2nd below, with no 3rd or 4th and decal appears not to be damaged.Tractor is not running and was bought like that, shifts only into 1st and 2nd.Thanks in advance Ron.
sharp.... Welcome to the site Im probably a day late and a dollar short but here ya go ....there are 2 drain plugs for the hydraulic oil one on each side under the tractor located on the bottom of each hydraulic tank (Towers) they are just pipe plugs.... here is what your shift pattern should be with neutral being in the middle.... If you have any more questions feel free to ask there are a lot of good guys on here that will help seems to be a lot of the old ck's and b's popping up lately Also if you have any pics of your rig you could post we like seeing them.......
Xpackdeals, thanks for the info,I will look on the bottom of the loader supports for the plugs and the trans/rear end has very little oil in it as well water in it. Will drain and flush and fill with 90w gear oil. I will ck shift pattern then. Thanks again,Ron.
Sharp no problem i have a 1970 580ck which is basically the same tractor as your 580b there are a few threads on here that you may find very helpful when you have time to read them here are the links and there are many more as well these ar just some current ones about the old ck's .....I dont know if you know it or not but the shuttle compartment takes hy trans oil and for the trans/rear i run 80/90wt from tractor supply......in this pic there is a ziplock bag over the drain plug and if i remember that is actually a tee and the plug is at the bottom of the tee and on the top of the tee theres a steel line that goes to the other side tee with the plug in the bottom of that one.....Drain both sides and just know that ou wont get all the old oil out just by draining the tanks as theres a lot left in there because of the lines/cylinders/valves/ect... and unless you want to bang your head against the wall i just drain the tanks and refill them with new then use it for a while so it can run the new stuff with the old and do another change later and as many times as you prefer until it looks clean im thinking twice does the trick ......anyway you do it its a mess but you do want to get that water out of there.....Also when you refill it as your setting on the seat the left tank on yours i believe is a vent on top of the tank that you remove to fill it in that hole and on the side of that left tank about 10" or so from the top on the side is a pipe plug i think it takes a 7/16 wrench remove that and as your filling with oil when the oil comes out that 7/16 plug that means your full just be careful so you dont get a false read as oil will usually come out that plug and not be full ....the slower you fill it the better it will be to give the oil time to get to the bottom and settle down before it comes out that plug.....There is also on one side or the other of those tank arms that run forward towards the front on the side of the arm facing the motor a 7/16 plug you should remove while your filling it as it will allow air to escape while your filling it back up with oil....I only remove this plug when ido adrain like your doing not when just topping it off.....I hope this helps you if you have questions by all means ask...... Heres a current link that may help you right now HeavyEquipmentForums Heres one that has some great stuff on it HeavyEquipmentForums Heres one that has a bunch of stuff to HeavyEquipmentForums These are the current ones and there is tons more on here you can search for one of the guys named 1968 Case 580ck has a lot of separate threads about what he has done to his great info on his as well..... Keep in mind these are on the ck's which most of the stuff will apply to your B there are some differences between the b's and ck's but most of it will apply to your b....
