Case 300c Skid King Help!!!

skilsaw13 ยท 2013-08-25 14:20

Need help with a case 300c skid king. Long story short it broke down behind the house and the owner is long gone and cant be contacted. the yoke where the front drive shaft goes into the front diff broke so i took out the whole drive shaft thinking i could just use 2wd to at least try and get it out of the woods. i tried to move it but it seemed like the front wheels where locked up the back wheels would spin but the front would not move at all. i talked to a friend he said it might be the front axle. if anyone has any info on the best way to just get this machine in neutral or anything that would help get it out of the woods it would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks Everyone!!

case skid king, you mean the case logging skidders... please post a pic, i've seen them in parts books but never even a photo. As for helping you get moved... can you disconnect the back drive shaft and tow it out with something else, bulldozer maybe?

My guess is something in the diff broke jamming it, thus causeing the next weakest link in the drivetrain to break (the yoke). Not sure what kinda axles they have, but you might be able to pull the axle shafts to get it to roll.

I'd jack up the front wheels and see if either of them will turn. If only one side is locked up, take the cover off the planetary (outside "hub cap") and see if you can remove the axle or planetary gears and get the bearing back together correctly, then it will freewheel. If neither side will turn then you'll have to do both sides. But that assumes you intend to fix this, or at least tear it apart far enough to know whether you want to fix it.

The axles are probably interchangeable with Cases tractors, backhoes or loaders and shouldn't be too difficult to find if you figure out what exactly you're looking for. I think Boardbysled hit the nail on the head as to what's going on
