Hi guys, new to this forum so thx in advance for any help/suggestions. Today i bought a 2009 Case 420 series 3 knowing it is smoking like a chimney and possibly will have to do rings and pistons. Today i drove off the trailer and was idling around (throttle cable is disconnected because it is seized on full noise) and then it stopped without spluttering, just stopped dead. Tried restarting and it cranks but will not start. There is diesel at the injector lines. The previous guy bought it NOT running and put a new injector pump and injectors in it and he got it running but doesn't have time to fix the smoking issue. There is no blow by out of the oil filler cap. What could be the non starting issue. Thx
On my 2005 420, the female terminal that that plugs into the injector pump failed and would not supply enough current to engage the pump. I changed the terminal and that fixed it.
thx mate, found the 12v power to injector pump solenoid was broken
These have an EGR system. Fabricate a small plate & replace item 14 You never know your luck .....
I’m new to this skid steer i have a 420 case but where is this terminal. I cannot get fuel to the line no matter how much i prime
Look for a single wire that plugs into a small round solenoid right at the injection pump.
i pulled that solenoid and still had it plugged in and turned the key to on and went to ground with it and it went in and out no problem but i’m still not getting any fuel
Depending on what inj pump u have, the inlet banjo bolt is different than the return/outlet bb..(VE pump)
I don't know what you have checked at this time but you could have a defective fuel cap, the shut off valve could be blocked shut, or the primary fuel filter could be plugged, or the electric fuel pump is bad.
So i just wanted to check to make sure this machine would work i went out and bought a small electric fuel pump and plugged it inline thru the fuel filters and to the injection pump and the machine ran but smoked pretty good when the throttle was turned all the way up. Any ideas? Edit: There was not any electric fuel pumps on this machine, besides the one i added to ensure the machine would operate
Series 3 machines have a mechanical fuel pump and not a electric pump. Check your air filters for the smoking problem.
So the issue i was having is that fuel wouldn’t pull thru the pump the only way i could get it to the injection pump is by putting an inline electric pump
Does the machine have a banjo bolt with internal screen that is partially plugged, but with electric fuel pump pumping the unit runs? Unit would not have a positive air shut off that is partially tripped and no air causing smoke. Sorry, just eliminating simple stuff I have seen before. Have all the engine valves been adjusted lately, depends on the hours. Simon C
