Case 480E 1986 looking for parts.

Hello all, I just acquired a 86 480e for free, cant beat that. Any how the machine was used to push trash and during large snow storms used to push piles off the parking lot. The loader and backhoe are in excelent shape, the over all machine is in pretty good shape with the exception of wheel wells floor board and above the rear axle, the sheet metal is rotted, not severely but enough. I need to replace a few items on the engine, and was wondering if anyone knew where i night be able to get the lower half of the cab, doors and all glass are in great shape. Also if anyone knows where i can get alternator, water pump, fan belt, and also there is a can of ether for cold starting that needs replacing. Case wants an arm an a leg for these parts so if anyone could help that would be great. I figure a machine of no cost is worth brining back to life, also it has 6000 hrs on it.

Phew... Poor you. First I suggest you give it back to them before you start unless you really want an expensive toy... Otherwise you can Google "used case backhoe parts", or "Case backhoe manual". It will start with $100 hear and there, then before you know it you got $4000 invested... They are the nicest thing in the world to have around a farm, but they AIN'T cheap to work on.

Thank you for your input, and yes i agree they do get expensive, but for something thst is free, you cant go wrong, i did do some research online, what id really like to find is a heavy equipment salvage yard, if any one may know of one, the alternator and so on can you get them at napa like the oil filters that napa makes

I disagree. My 2nd suggestion is to sell it now, as is... These toys cause divorces. If you have the time and money to repair it then go for it. I do hope you have big tools, knowledge, and a place to work on it. But be prepared to NOT want to sell it later because they are nice to have around. If you are determined to fix it... Take the alternator to a local alternator shop; you may not need to buy this from Case. Have it checked and repaired if possible. http://www.wengers.com/ is one salvage yard. You mentioned cab parts and I think they can get pricey(even used stuff). Also look at http://www.brokentractor.com/case_i...urce=adwords&gclid=CI_97Krh27cCFeHm7AodfU0AjA http://www.reliableaftermarketpartsinc.com/servlet/StoreFront online has some items that are cheaper. This place is BIG on E-Bay, which is another place you should look. Go here, http://partstore.casece.com/us/parts-search.html#epc::home and do a parts search for 480E if you have not done so. You will need to bookmark this because you will be looking at it often. You need to also learn about http://www.colemanequip.com/ because they have good prices on Case OEM parts. Also some Fleetgard filters that are cheaper than Case. Do you know if the engine is actually good? Has it been kept inside or out in the weather?
