Steering problem with this machine, lost Steering on this machine bought the service manual and am going to read. I'm 2nd mechanic in as 1st changed Steering valve and several other items . I took it on because owner is a good guy . It's an older system and hoping there's someone with experience on it
Is the steering just difficult or non-existent? Has anyone checked the steering pressures?
Not sure what Troubleshooting has been done . I know they spent a crazy amount on a steering valve assembly buy haven't been able to get a hold to ask person who did work. Where is easiest place to pick up steering pressure. Seems like place to start
There is a little steering to left almost none to right
If you have a service manual, look in the steering hydraulics section............it should give you all the info you need. The steer valve I am assuming is an orbital style.........that will need hydraulic flow and pressure to operate correctly
What is a Case 544 B ?
A 544B is a really old john deere loader ,reading service manual there's several valves incorperated in steering system . jusy was wondering if anyone had this issue in past
A John Deere 544B wheel loader ? That clears up a mystery. At least it does for me. Has anyone tried removing the hoses from the steering cylinders, and then checking if the steering wheel can be turned normally ? Doing that will prove if there is or isn't a problem with the cylinders. Be sure the loader bucket is firmly on the ground and the parking brake is applied to avoid any possibility of getting injured.
The pump for the steering on that machine is under the radiator. First make sure the coupler that drives it is OK. If so, then the standby pressure and charge pressure for that pump need to be checked.
