case 580 super k: typr 303 hyd. oil

A mechanic once told me to just use generic type 303 tractor fluid for "everything". I didn't realize that the transaxle calls for Case Hy-Trans Plus. I have been topping it off with 303. I have probably added about a gallon total through the years. Opinions on 303 vs hy-trans??

303 is combined hydraulic transmission fluid for the 2-8-9N Fords and C-H-M Farmalls. HyTran is a much more sophisticated oil. I probably wouldn't worry about a gallon, but that depends on how many gallons it takes and how long it's been since it's been changed.

Thanks. Capacity is 57 qts (over 14 gals.)
