I guess its time for me to tackle replacing my extendahoe sliders . I'm looking for any advice or tips on the best way to tackle this job? I don't have another machine or hoist to help with the re & re of the extendahoe sections. Any help - tips or advice would be great!! Thks !!
Dig you a hole with the stick boom so it stand striagth up and undo the extenda stick it and pick the main boom straigth up from the extenda stick this how i would do it if i dont have a way to pick it up
digging a hole might be alright, but if it were me I'd put it at an angle. I've never done it this way, we always use the shop hoist. We usually get it about 45 degrees and put a sling around it, unpin everything and then use the boom and dipper to slide it out and leave the extendahoe hanging on the crane. I suppose a tree and chain would work too. My advice would be to replace any of the lines inside the dipper that show any damage or wetness, and also repack the extension cyl. It might be more than you wanted to do, but its better and cheaper than having to go back in to it later when you're already there now.
yes dig a hole and set down in it. at a shallow angle once you remove the pin draw the cylinder back in all the way then pull out of it. If you have a forklift or even an engine hoist then do it above ground just remember you will need to have something to hold the bottom end of the stick as you go to push back into it. grease the hell out of everything and when you buy the wear pads buy some shims too. do not make it too tight. get some caps for the bucket cylinder lines. this is fairly straight forward and alot easier than you might think it is. you will get some plastic plugs to hold the wear plates in place when it is out of the extendahoe stick. If one or more of the plates will not stay in place use a man and a stick to hold them. Do not let anyone hold them with their hands. This job can be done by a couple of guys in way less than an hr on a 580. but while it is apart look for wear on the 2 lines and make sure all lines and fittings are tight n th cylinder. ( thay have a habbit of coming loose where th adapter threads into the cylinder ports
